"Coffee Snob"
« on: May 13, 2016, 10:44:59 AM »
Well...I've just been branded a "coffee snob" by the husband!

Even though I have lived here nearly 7 years now, I still have a weird thing against instant coffee. I will drink it, I tolerate some types more than others, but to me, nothing beats good filtered coffee! When we first moved in together, I was insistent on getting a coffee machine. My husband used it a lot at first, but lately has gone back to his instant. I still have my mom send me coffee from back home, usually pumpkin spice flavored in the Fall. I totally miss walking down the coffee aisle at Publix just for the smell of good ol' fashioned ground coffee beans!

Has anyone taken to the instant coffee here?

I think this is another case where it's what you are used to that matters.

I'm British and I'm not a huge coffee drinker but when I do, I much prefer instant. I didn't like the real coffee in the US.  :)

I think it's definitely stronger, so if youre not a big coffee drinker, I see where instant is more tolerable! :)

You know, I worked at Starbucks in America and never would try instant there. I bought a coffee machine when I moved here etc. Recently I tried instant at work and I actually liked it! I like strong coffee so I do two spoons lol, but I also just bought some for home this past weekend. I never thought I would like it.

I'm definitely leaning towards the snob side of things.  I buy coffee online from https://ravecoffee.co.uk/ and think that all supermarket coffee is stale.  I grind it at home and make myself a proper cappuccino. If you guys were around I'd make them for everyone.

I have, but it's taken like 25 years.  I'm ok with instant now, and it's what I drink every morning at work (I buy the Azera or Millicano ones that come in the small tin).  When I get a chance for a *real* coffee now, I taste the difference and appreciate it more!

I don't drink coffee often, but when I drink it at home, it's just a stovetop espresso (Italian moka). It's way cheaper than any coffee maker (I think it cost about £15 and has lasted a few years already), only takes a few minutes to brew and for me, it makes coffee just as good.

A major plus: it doesn't take up any of our precious counter space. ;)

One downside: when I made coffee for SIL, it was waaaay too strong for her. I think she's more into instant coffee with half the cup filled with hot milk. ::) To each her own.

I used to buy instant coffee, but I only used it for making Greek frappé. Actually, I might buy some to get two birds with one stone - SIL can get her instant coffee (for her once-a-year-when-she-has-to visit) & DH and I can have frappé in the summer. 8)

I can't stand instant. I keep it in my house for my father in law, but I also have a regular coffee maker as well. I go between grinding my own beans and buying ground coffee. I always have to explain that Americans only drink instant when they have no other option and hell is freezing over because coffee makers are ubiquitous for most of us. :)

And they are really cute too!

I'm definitely a coffee snob.. I can not stand instant.. I'd rather go without and if you knew me that's saying a lot . lololol

I use one of these which allows me to any ground coffee I fancy.. Love it I use it any time I want a cup of coffee.. Other reason I love it is.. each and every cup is nice n fresh.

You're so right! In fact, I used to ask for half coffee, half water but that did nothing for the flavor....

I can't stand instant coffee. I did drink it for a few years when I first moved over here. Now I'm into double espressos.  We used to always brew a few pots of filter coffee at work in America and share it in the office. I also liked a snickers flavoured coffee from a local shop. Miss that
