Dumb tax question -- how to figure out what I earned?
« on: February 27, 2016, 02:14:43 PM »
I haven't bothered filing taxes in the US for several years, because I was unemployed and had no income. However, since May 2015 I've actually been working, so I need to file taxes this year.

I've forgotten how to work out how much I earned during the tax year, though. Is it simply a matter of adding up the amount on all my pay slips, or is there some official statement I should request from HMRC in lieu of a W2?

The P60 is the UK's equivalent of the W2. you might run into a bit of difficulty with the mismatched US and UK tax years. Someone who does this regularly will be along soon to give you a full answer, but if you have pay slips you can probably just add them up.

Yes, as you've been working since May, take the gross monthly income from the May to December pay slip, and add all together for the US return. No evidence similar to a W2 is required.
