Voltage converter for a blender
« on: May 26, 2016, 10:34:50 AM »
I brought a Nutri Ninja 2 in 1 blender with me when I moved last week.  I went to use it with a cheaper converter and nearly blew it up.  I went to Maplin's and asked for a converter and they said that I need a 1000 Watt converter.  I'm wondering, is it worth buying the converter?  Or should I just buy a new blender?  I use this blender for smoothies on a daily basis.  I found the blender I own here in the UK for £100-150 which is more than I'd like to spend but need to have a blender for daily use.  Any suggestions?  Does anyone have prior experience using a blender in the UK from the US?

Buy a new blender. The power draw at the start of the motor's cycle on a blender will fry almost any converter instantly. I haven't used my KitchenAid blender in four years for that reason.

My mixer, however, works just fine on the same converter.

I have no experience but have heard just this. Apparently they surge.
