Late introduction
« on: June 23, 2016, 02:23:36 PM »
Hi everyone. I have been browsing these forums for a couple months and I have posted a couple times, but I never introduced myself. :)

I'm Ali, and I'm currently in Tampa, Florida. I have finally gotten all the documents together and am going to submit it all next week to really get the ball rolling so I can join my English hubby living in Scotland.

It's incredibly stressful and overwhelming but I keep going over and over the checklists and it seems I have it all and we are ready. The most overwhelming bit is getting my 3 animals over with me. But that's another post.

Thanks for all the great info and support I see here!

Hi Ali, By the time you have your spouse visa, you will be so good at paperwork and studying the rules that shipping your animals will seem like a breeze!

Welcome and good luck with the move.  ;D

Welcome to the forum :).

Before you submit your online application, if you want to post a list of the documents you're sending with your application in the Visas section, feel free, and we can check you aren't missing anything important :).

Also, if you have any questions at all about the documents or the application process, please feel free to ask :).

Thanks. I will do that. My hubby just put in the mail the missing bank statements that we need .... And then it's go time. So I will definitely post a checklist before I hit that submit button.

Random question .... Does his passport bio page have to be certified ? It doesn't say that on the uk gov site, but I've seen people say it should be officially notarized ....

:) :)

It is best to have it certified. It can be done at the Post Office. http://www.postoffice.co.uk/document-certification-service

The UKVI website used to specify that if the copy was not certified/notarised, it must be accompanied by the UK citizen's original long form birth certificate. However, since they redesigned the website, it no longer says that - and doesn't specify either way anymore.

The suggested list of supporting documents just says 'a copy of', while elsewhere on the website, it says that all documents must be originals (or certified) and that photocopies will not be accepted.

So, my advice has always been to be on the safe side and get the copy certified/notarised. Some people have been okay with just a regular photocopy, but you never know.
