Health insurance for first month back in USA
« on: June 21, 2016, 07:48:49 PM »
I've just called our prior health insurance company and I was told they cannot issue insurance until we send them a rental agreement and utility bill, so that suggests we'd have to go a month without health insurance if we return to the US.

Is there some way around this, or some sort of bridging insurance product for returning expats ?

Thanks

I googled and found quite a few programs:  http://www.itgworldwide.com/us-citizens-returning.html and https://www.gnshorttermhealthplan.com/for-u-s-citizens-residents/ were a couple.

Good luck in your search :)

I called the Massachusetts health connector and they were helpful - I have to be a resident before I can purchase on the exchange but I have 90 days to provide proof of residency so the person I spoke to thinks that's the way to do it.   Setup an account at a relative / friend's address, buy and pay for insurance, move and have friend complete an affidavit of residency saying you live with them and mail it.   In the mean time find rental / house purchase.

Other states may be different.
