Don't know if you yourself would have to sign for it but it's pretty important documents so doubt they would just leave it without ensuring it was in someone's hands.

In 2014, UPS in my small Colorado town did just leave my return package from Sheffield on my parents porch. I was royally ticked off and the corporate people said the guy did nothing wrong.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I'm a bit worried, because if our visas are approved, they may be delivered to my in-laws' house while we're gone. And they work during the day. Does UPS deliver early morning or after dinner? Can we just go pick it up at UPS when we're back?

Can you track it when it's on it's way back to you and arrange to be at that address to receive it?

Wow really? No one had to sign for it? I remember having to sign for mine, I was shaking due to being nervous what was inside and I couldnt seem to sign fast enough to get back inside to open it so pretty sure it ended up just being a scribble!

You can sign up for the basic UPS My Choice account, and once it's in motion, can redirect the parcel to a UPS location or pick-up point: https://www.ups.com/content/us/en/bussol/browse/personal/delivery_options/my_choice.html

We're staying with them as we prepare to move to the UK.  But heading off to visit other family and friends for 2 weeks meanwhile.

Really. I was royally ticked, someone stealing your passport is a bit of a big deal. Not on par with your SS number, but close. I couldn't believe it could be delivered without a signature, which is why I called to speak with corporate.
