Vignette transfer saga continues
« on: October 14, 2016, 03:02:28 AM »
Hello again.

So I applied weeks ago and sent things off to Sheffield to transfer my vignette so I can enter the country Jan 1.

It was a frustrating ordeal and after calling the help line and emailing and consulting forums it seemed it should go to Sheffield as that's where my visa was processed.

Well I got my package back today. All untouched. They kept nothing. No note or letter inside indicating anything but they did not transfer my vignette. It's all returned to me as I had it in the envelope .....

I'm just crushed at this point and I don't know what to do.

The email help people are useless. I'm convinced the same about the help line that you pay for .... there are very few online resources for this sort of situation. I've consulted other forums and come up with nothing.

Should I call a lawyer ? I don't know what to do and I just want to change my entry date ... I've wasted so much time and money ..... this shouldn't be that difficult.

I'm sorry for length ,... I'm just so so so upset and miserable.

Oh No!   Lunarea, I'm so sorry.

Take a look at this thread here.   http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=86819.0

The OP successfully had her vignette changed and there is mention at the end of New York. Maybe that's where it should go?

I would give her a pm and hopefully she will be able to fill you in.

Sorry you're going through this. Maybe mail it to New York instead, see if they will process it there? (If I'm honest, I had a feeling that it was supposed to go to New York but then talked myself out of it based on other responses).

I wonder though if it was returned because your original vignette was still in date when you mailed it? You're really only supposed to apply for a new one if the first one has expired and you have been unable to travel during its validity. Since it was still valid, they may not have been allowed to transfer it (not sure on that, just an idea). It's bad that they didn't include a note or anything though.

And yeah, the helpline and email people are useless - I don't usually advise people to contact them.

Thanks. Well ... at this stage , I guess New York would be the best option. I looked at that post before but it said at the start she sent it to New York and they sent it back ?

I tried to call New York to confirm if I send it there , and they wouldn't even let me finish my question and said they do nothing with visas and told me to call the helpline. I was like "but I already have .." ... but no. Cut off. Rude.

And yeah , I wondered about sending it while the 30 days was valid. But I read stuff online that said to do it that way. I really wish their info on this sort of situation was a little more complete on the actual uk gov site ....

I emailed a lawyer.

Next step would be to try New York ... do I have to redo the app and biometrics ??? They were taken 9/21 ..... or can I just send everything as is ? :(

Did you try sending a personal message to mland5835? She got hers done in  the end so she must know what to do.

With a visa granted in August, are applicants allowed to request a vignette for January entry? Isn't there a 3 month rule?

Can you enter with your vignette if it is still within the 30 days, collect your BRP and then rerurn home to the US to finish up there? Then enter the UK with your BRP when you are ready to move?

Good point - I don't know actually.

Normally if someone hasn't been able to travel during the vignette validity they will want the new one to start almost immediately so they can travel as soon as possible.

A new vignette isn't really supposed to be for someone who has changed their mind about when they want to travel and instead wants to postpone for several months, but it's for someone who has been unable to book a flight in time to travel in the 30 days and needs a few extra days to be able enter the UK.

The entry dates have passed. Ended October 9. Can no longer enter.

The papers say that if one cannot enter , then do a vignette transfer. It doesn't have conditions or rules that I've found anywhere at all.

I would have loved to enter during that time. It's a long story. But a commenter here said that I would have possible repercussions when it comes to the next round of applications as I won't be able to officially move til January. So after weighing my options , the vignette transfer seemed the best way forward. Didn't realize it was such an ordeal.
