My supporting docs list
« on: October 10, 2016, 11:29:44 AM »
Hello everyone, applying in just two weeks and was wondering if I could get your thoughts on my docs list? Also could you tell me if this is arranged in a good order or if some things need to be in a different place?

Will have nhs/biometrics/Priority service/roundtrip shipping receipts but we're not quite there yet.

Online application VAF4A
Appendix 2

Passport/U.K. Sized photo -with my name on the back
Old passport

Letter from sponsor/list of documents
Certified copy of sponsors passport
Short cover letter from me

Letter from sponsors employer
Work contract
Payslips (may, June, July, August, sept, oct)
Banks statements (April to October)

Letter from MIL granting me permission to stay in her house

Copy of Will granting MIL ownership of the house (no land registry available)

Letter from Will's executor confirming ownership and number of rooms in house - on solicitor letterhead paper (instead of a property inspection)

Marriage certificate
Several photos of us/brief description
Several Whatsapp/Skype/Facebook chat logs
Flights to and with eachother
Just a couple cards from him and his family. Valentines, Christmas, and marriage. Do I need letters from me to him as well?

Proposed flight

Does this sound okay? Hope I'm not missing anything!

Also how did you all send your documents? In an envelope? In a little box? How did you separate the different sections?

This forum has been invaluable to me, thank you all so much for your help and I'm looking forward to joining all you lovely people in the UK very soon :) x

Yup, looks good.

I made two piles, originals and copies and put each in a manila envelope within the outer mailing envelope. You could use rubber bands, string even. Just keep it simple.

As well as including photocopies of everything you would like returned to you, it's a really good idea to make a copy of the application and appendix 2 to keep for your own records. You'll find it really useful when it comes time to apply for the next visa!

Oh good idea with the Manila envelopes! What copies did you end up submitting? The only things I really want returned are my marriage certificate and the Christmas/birthday cards so I don't think my copies pile will be very big..

You must make copies of every single document you want returned - do you not want things like the original job contract, P60, payslips and bank statements back? You may need some of them for the next visa application.

We have electronic copies of everything on our computers but yes that's a good idea to keep them around for the next application! Didn't even think of that.

The application confirmation email from UKVI suggested this order (although I'm sure you'd be fine so long as your materials are grouped in a way that makes sense)

"...documents should be arranged in this order: application form and relevant Appendix* (See below); English language evidence; relationship documents; maintenance documents; accommodation documents.   If documents are not received a decision will be taken on the basis on the information that has been provided."
