West London?
« on: November 17, 2004, 04:03:43 PM »
Hi everyone!

Any recommendations on areas to live in the the west London area?  I've never been before, so please forgive me if I seem like I don't know what I'm talking about!  :P   My husband's company is located near Victoria Road (if that helps), and having lived in LA for many, many, many years we don't have too much of a problem with a reasonable commute (train, car, whatever).  I'd prefer to be out of the city per se, but understand that that may not be possible.

I'd appreciate any suggestions!   ;D

Hi Fungirl, do you know what suburb Victoria Rd is in, or do you have a postcode? West London could mean anywhere from Notting Hill to Heathrow and there are a lot of different neighbourhoods, some affluent, some not.

CHISWICK.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it there.

If hubby and i didn't like the city so much, we'd be there.  it is a good hour into the middle of the city during rush hour though.

Yep Chiswick is really nice. Live there no need to commute. Far enough out of town to be safe and nice and near enough to town when you want a night out. Also handy for the motorway out of London and good train service.

I found a really good site to check when relocating anywhere in the UK

www.upmystree.co.uk

You type in a postcode and it lists...
    * What's new
    * FindMyNearest...™
    * Property
    * Classifieds
    * Broadband suppliers
    * Register with UpMyStreet
    * Conversations
    * Education
    * Policing and crime
    * Transport
    * ACORN profile
    * People
    * Weather
    * Contacting your council
    * Council performance
    * Your representatives

Very handy!

Good luck with your move, Fungirl!! London is my favourite place!

 ;D

Thanks for the pronounciation.  I'm really starting to feel like just knowing what to call things is a test.  Like if I mispronounce something or use the wrong phrase the put a little tick next to my name, and if I get a certain amount, they'll not let me in!   ;)

You are not alone...just remember to never pronounce the "w" in a name & you'll be okay.  My current beau laughs at my pronounciations all the time...I just tell him I'll laugh when he tries to pronounce the towns in Pennyslvania!

I remember the first time I tried to say "Bala Cynwyd".  Ooh, that was embarassing.
