HELP!!! Need to get some help with question on VAF AF!!
« on: November 07, 2016, 07:47:08 AM »
Hi everybody! :) I'm new here!

I'm preparing for a spouse visa at the moment and I need your help if anybody have any info on this.
Since my husband is in Royal Navy, I'm working on my VAF AF(Personal Details Form) at the moment, and came across this question in the front page of this form.

"Are you applying for limited leave or indefinite leave?" I thought since it's my initial spouse visa(we got married this year) the answer must be 'limited leave', but after looking at a few websites I'm really confused. Some people said 'indefinite leave' some people say 'limited leave'...... I'm going a bit crazy about what is right answer to this question...

If anybody applied under Appendix Armed Forces before pls help!
Thank you!

Limited leave.  You'll qualify for indefinite leave after you've had limited leave for 5 years.

Thank you so much for your response!! :) That really helps! I've been researching non stop for this....   It's a bit hard to find people applying under Appendix Armed Forces so it's harder to get advice on things only apply to people like me :) May I ask you also applied under Appendix AF?

No, but I know the rules quite well.  Been around awhile now.

There are a few differences for the visa for AF, but limited leave versus indefinite leave isn't one of them.

The main differences are that you are exempt from the NHS levy and your visa will be made valid for the length of your partner's contract (not 33 months as a civilian would have).  There are a few other differences depending on where your partner is stationed, but not many.

Ok, thank you again for the kind advice!
Actually I've been reading through the issue here about Immigration Health Surcharge. Since I haven't started on line application yet I don't know if they now have box to click for spouse of HM Forces.
I've read here some people checked random box for exemption, but I'm a bit worried to do that so I'm thinking maybe I should just pay first and ask for a refund later. Do you have any info on this by any chance?
Sorry to bother you with too many questions...

As you click through the application and it prompts you to pay, you should be able to select your application type there and it will show zero payment due - but it will create an IHS reference number for you.  Let us know if you have trouble (it's had some bugs in the past).

Oh, so now they have Spouse of HM Forces selection box in on-line application when it comes to payment of Immigration Health Surcharge? The thread I've read was from 2015, I think, that some people checked random box for exemption because there was no selection box for Spouse of HM Forces.
