Cover letter

Anyone have and suggestions for format and contents of a cover letter.  Thanks

I put a cover letter in with my wife's application. I wrote the letter as the "sponsor". I'm not sure if it was required or not but I put it in anyway.

It was two pages long addressed "To whom it may concern".

I had the following sub headings or paragraphs:

* Background

Just an overview here - I'm from the UK, she is from the USA we are 32 years old with no kids blah blah blah

* Relationship History

Where and when we met. When we started living together. When we got married etc

* Current Circumstances

My employment situation and why we want to move to the UK. What my employment situation will be when I get to the UK

* Future Plans

Just a closing paragraph about wanting to live as husband and wife in the UK and start a new life there.

That's what I included. Not sure if anyone read it but it contained all the relevant information in context if they did.
