Visa approved! Now what?
« on: November 11, 2016, 06:27:49 AM »
Hello everyone! My spouse visa has been accepted! Woohoo!! It only took 2 days for them to make a decision, I can't believe it! Anyways, I just have a couple questions about what happens next.

First of all, I said on my application that I'd be traveling alone because I didn't expect to have an answer until after my husband went back to the UK, but now we are leaving together tomorrow. Will this be a problem?

Second, when I go through customs, can I go with my husband through the UK line or do I need to stuck to the US line?

Third, when I pick up my BRP card, does he need to be there with me or can I do that on my own?

Thank you all so much! You have all been so incredibly kind and helpful!!

Congratulations :D!

In answer to your questions:

1. No, it won't be an issue at all - plans change all the time. As long as you enter together and you don't try to enter before him, it's fine

2. You should go through immigration together - usually the UK/EU line, but if you're not sure, just ask someone at immigration

Note:
Customs is not the same as immigration. Immigration is about visas and being allowed into the country, Customs is about bringing goods into the UK and whether you have to pay tax/duty on them.

- you go through immigration when you get off the plane
- after immigration you go to baggage claim and collect your bags
- then you walk through customs... If you have any goods to declare, you go through the red channel, if not, you go through the green one.
- once you have walked through customs you leave the airport

3. I'm not sure - what does is say on your letter about picking up the BRP? I didn't think the spouse needed to be there but someone mentioned something about it the other day, so now I don't know.

Thanks for the clarification on immigration and customs! I always get them mixed up!

Okay I'll que up with him tomorrow :)

I don't have the letter on me at the moment but basically it just said to bring that letter with me to the pick up location and that if I was under 18 I'd need a parent to accompany me, which doesn't apply to me haha
