UK Passport not included with other documents
« on: November 10, 2016, 02:30:00 PM »
Hello everyone! I received my "A decision has been made" email yesterday and we're expecting my passport to arrive tomorrow. But today we received a strange email from our UK attorney stating that she received my husband's passport in the mail today.
Has anyone else had this happen? Why wouldn't they include it with my passport? It really has us a bit uneasy! To be clear, my husband lives in the US with me. Does this mean the application has been denied? Our attorney is also unsure why this happened and is making inquiries.

Any insight would be great. Thanks so much!!

You're not supposed to send the sponsor's passport, so they likely pulled it from the package when it arrived and returned it.  And as you used a solicitor, they returned it to him/her.

It means nothing about approval or refusal.  They were probably more confused as to why it was included than you are about it being returned.

Have your solicitor return it to you in the US using either FedEx, DHL, or UPS (not Royal Mail or Parcel Force).

Oh dear. Don't I feel a bit dumb now! We thought it was strange that his passport was to be included, but we didn't question it. Better safe than sorry I suppose!

Thanks so much for your quick response. We definitely feel a bit better now!

Well you are required to send a copy of his passport photo page, as proof of his UK citizenship and age - because the visa will be refused without it - but you don't need to send the actual passport.

The Supporting Documents guidance states:

Quote
Evidence of your sponsor’s immigration status/ permission to be in the UK
This could be copies of:
- bio-data pages from their passport or Travel Document
- valid UK visa or UK stamp from their passports
- Home Office letter confirming their permission to stay in the UK

It's nothing to worry about - just rather unusual!  At least you know where the passport is.  Just be sure they use a secure carrier to have it returned.  Not a big deal.  :)
