US Citizen Tier 4 Student Visa
« on: November 11, 2016, 03:12:08 AM »
Hello,

I have been accepted to university in London and am currently waiting on my loan acceptance letter and CAS to apply for my tier 4 visa. I have read extensively online that as of July 2011, US citizens do not need to send in financial evidence. My loan will cover my tuition, and I have money in a separate account that will be enough for the required maintenance amount.... but I do not need to submit any of the supporting documents with all of my paperwork?

What is the likelihood that they will ask for my proof of funds if I list that my loan does not cover all of my fees? I am very anxious to send my application and receive my visa.

Any guidance, advice, or past experience would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum :).

Yes it's true that US citizens do not need to provide evidence of their finances... Though you should make sure you can show it (loan letter and bank statements) just in case they ask to see it.

However, I don't recall anyone here on the forum actually being asked to prove their finances for a Tier 4 visa since July 2011.

You should mention on your application form that you have the rest of the required money in your bank account though.

When does your course start? Is it a mid-year start date (i.e. January)?Just wondering because November is an unusual time of year to be applying for a student visa.

Most UK university courses don't start until September/October and you can't apply for the visa until 3 months before the start date, so most people won't be able to apply for their Tier 4 visa until June or July (the CAS isn't usually issued until around April-June time).

Thank you so much for the welcome and the response!

I have my account statements in place along with the loan acceptance letter I'll receive. Although I am glad to hear that they haven't requested to see the documents, that is added stress!

My course starts January 16, it is a one year masters program. Hopefully the lack of students applying right now will make for a quick response time!
