They just left mine on the porch. (My mom had taken the day off of work, and we are in a neighborhood where we would worry about mail theft, so we were pretty ticked off.) So I think it just depends on the UPS delivery person. Do you have the tracking number? I think you might be able to go and change delivery preferences after one attempt at delivering it. So if they try, you can perhaps ask them to leave it with a neighbor, or hold it at the UPS facility until you get back so you can go pick it up. I'm not sure how easy that is for you, but it was something I was considering before when I wasn't sure someone would be home the day it arrived.
