1st UK license
« on: April 09, 2017, 09:09:35 PM »
I'm a USC (been here over 12 months) about to apply for my provisional license using the paper application (DVLA's online application doesn't recognise my home address  :-\\\\ ).

Just to doublecheck, is it true that I can send my BRP as my sole proof of identity? And if I send my BRP, do I not need to send a photograph as well? I just want to make sure I'm sending everything right the first time.

Also, what's the best way to get a cheque or postal order to pay my fee? I didn't get any cheques when I opened my bank account here and I've never purchased a postal order before.  ???

I know, as a UKC, that I can use my passport photo for my driving license and my friends have done this. Whether your BRP falls under the same category I have no idea.

Probably best to just give the DVLA a call to confirm. Can you send your passport although it's American?

You can buy a Postal Order from the Post Office.

You might find that all you have to do is ask your bank for cheques, especially if you have been with them for a while now.  :)

A quick update: I sent my postal application in with my BRP (no passport) and an unsigned photo. It's been less than two weeks - including the Easter holiday - and now I've received both my BRP (in the self-addressed envelope) and my provisional license (in its own envelope). They arrived on the same day.  ;D

Glad it came back! I was so nervous to send mine off.. as it feels like your BRP card is kind of your life line hah.

Good luck with your test :D
