Fiancee Visa Document Checklist
« on: May 30, 2017, 01:57:11 PM »
My fiancee and I have nearly gathered all the documents we think we will need for the forthcoming visa application. We have been engaged nearly a year, and have visited each other a few times. I am a UK citizen and she is a USA citizen.

We propose to submit the following documents with the application form:
Basics
- My fiancee's passport.
- 2 passport sized photographs of my fiancee.
- My fiancee's letter of intent.
- My letter of sponsorship.

Financial/Employment
- 6 months of original bank statements showing payments from my employer to me for my salary.
- 6 months of original payslips showing a gross annual salary over £18,600.
- A letter from my employer confirming my employment and also explaining an accounting error made in the net pay to me (they didn't pay me enough) along with a note showing corrective payments made (this also matches every months payslip to the bank deposit). This also mentiones that I have recently moved houses (some payslips show my old address).
- Signed contract of employment.

Accommodation
- Original copy of tenancy agreement at current address.
- Property inspection report from local council stating the house is big enough.
- Letter from water supplier stating they acknowledge my change of address and asking to get the account set up.
- Supporting letter from landlord stating they have no objections to my fiancee staying with me.
- A few house photographs (not sure this is required)?

Proof of Relationship
- Scanned copy of photo page from my passport (British passport).
- Screenshots of Skype logs.
- Screenshots of e-mail logs.
- A couple of greeting cards I have sent my fiancee.
- Receipt for engagement ring.
- A couple of photos of our engagement party.
- A selection of pictures from various trips we have taken together.
- Letter from my sister (who I live with) stating she has met my fiancee many times and is happy for her to live with us (I live with my sister and her boyfriend currently).
- Scanned copy of a receipt from wedding venue along with signed confirmation form (I am the only one who has signed this as we booked it with the venue when my fiancee was not in the UK. It also only contains her first name, but it has my full name). Will this be an issue?
- An e-mail from the local Registry Office stating we are unable to make a provisional booking until my fiancee has been in the country for 7 days and we have formally given notice to marry. As such, as a result of this e-mail, we do not have a provisional booking as they won't give us one.
- E-tickets from visits we have both made to each other over the past couple of years.
- Confirmation from wedding photographer.
- Photos of my fiancee's wedding dress.
- A couple of photos of us with family members (from both sides).

I think this is hopefully enough and the right kinds of documents to submit. My concerns lie with:
1. The error the accountants made when paying me. This has been corrected by the company and they have provided a statement of payments for all months - to match the payslip to the bank statement. Will this be ok?

2. The fact my fiancee's last name is not on the venue confirmation. Will this be an issue? I did not thoroughly check this when they sent it and have just noticed now. Also, as she was out of the country when I made the booking, she could not sign it so it just has my signature on it. Will this be ok?

3. The fact we cannot get a provisional registrar booking. This was a funny one as we were categorically told this could not happen by the registry office. I have an e-mail to this effect. If we include this, will this be sufficient?

Thank you once again to everyone on the forum for their fantastic support and advice.

Thank you for the reminder!

Yeah, that's important! They have been asking people for it when it's been left out but that would only slow down an already slow process further.

Regarding your questions I don't see a problem with any of them.

1-Your employer has addressed the discrepancy in the pay (but how annoying that it happened now!)
2-No problem but anything that worries you like that, just explain in your letter or the any other info section of the application.
3-See 2.

You will also need the sundries such as receipt for payment, receipt for priority processing  if you use it (Highly recommended due to long wait times currently), stamped biometrics receipt, return shipping info.

Thank you for your re-assurance. I will put a note in my letter of sponsorship about these things. Do you think we now have all the required documents if we add Appendix 2 to the list?

Many thanks,
Jonathan

It may not apply to her, but your fiance should also include all previous US passports that she has ever held.

You can also include your latest P60 if you have received it yet (I just got mine the other day) - it's not a requirement, but they can ask for it, so it's recommended to send it anyway if you have it.

Also, a reminder not to forget the following, if applicable:
- Printed online application
- Appendix 2 (which you are already aware of)
- IHS surcharge number/payment receipt
- receipt for settlement priority processing (if using)
- return shipping labels/information

There are also a few things you have that are not needed and can be taken out:
- Property inspection report from local council stating the house is big enough.
- Letter from water supplier stating they acknowledge my change of address and asking to get the account set up.
- A few house photographs (not sure this is required)?
- A couple of photos of our engagement party.
- A selection of pictures from various trips we have taken together.
- A couple of photos of us with family members (from both sides).

You only need to send 2 photos maximum - with only you and your fiance in them and no one else - so no photos with friends or family members... as the photo is just to prove you and your fiance have met at least once in person. So you could include one recent photo and one photo from earlier in the relationship.

As long as it has been addressed by the company in their letter, it should be fine.

Not an issue as they are not expecting you to have been able to book anything yet.

As mentioned, not an issue because they don't expect you to have been able to book anything yet.

All you need for evidence of plans to marry is literally just an email chain between you and the registry office, enquiring about possible dates. That's it.

Thank you so much for all your help. With regard to the IHS surcharge, how do we go about getting/paying for this? Do we just go through this process before we send the visa application in? https://www.immigration-health-surcharge.service.gov.uk/payment/start

You will be directed to pay it as part of completing the online application.

You don't pay the IHS for the fiance visa. You should take out your own travel insurance to cover you  medically until you apply for FLR after the wedding, when you'll pay the IHS.
