is there a path for retiring in the UK?  does anyone know what Visa or path a couple would take- no intention of working---enough funds to support themselves to live and retire in th UK?

Unfortunately, there's no specific visa for retired people.

There used to be a 'Retired Person of Independent Means' visa but it was abolished several years ago.

The only way for a couple to move to the UK for their retirement would be if one of them was a UK citizen (or EU citizen - depending on future Brexit rules) and they applied for a spousal visa, using either pension income or cash savings to meet the financial requirement (or moved using EEA rules).

If you are hoping to close the gap with parents, do keep in mind that it CAN be done UK to USA (currently).  So if your husband settled in the US, he could sponsor his parents to move to the US.
