Hi everyone. My name is Darcy and I'm new to this site. So far, though, this is the best thing I've seen on the web in a long time! A big thanks for all of the postings. So, a little background for you curious ones---I live in California, but am looking to relocate to the UK soon. My bf lives in Spain and we have been together for nearly five years now. We met & began dating when he was studying abroad here 3+ years ago, I then went to study abroad in Spain last year once he graduated. Wanted to know his culture, improve my Spanish language skills, have a great experience, etc....Well, have my BA now and we're still together, (to the surprise of many ), although on opposite sides of the pond. It's been 6 months since we've seen one another now. The thing is, neither of us is interested in living in the other's homeland. All I can say is too much for either of us and Bush isn't doing a damned thing to help that situation. Well, that's another posting/forum in itself! Fortunately, we agreed on picking neutral ground and we are both thrilled at the prospect of England. With that said, and the homework/research now in progress, my head has swelled with the work and amount of money it all is going to take to make happen! However, it's an exciting, worthwhile adventure and we are both determined to make a go of it...without getting hitched. (Gulp!)
Anyhow, it's nice to be here and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and find some answers to the unanswered visa questions I still have. Here's a start--- Does anyone know if it's necessary to have a company sponsor me in order to complete the visa process so that I can remain in the country and work legally? The bf and I have plenty of photos, airline ticket receipts, memorabilia and the like to prove our 5 year relationship. But, I hear that there is still a likely chance that the Brits won't grant me a work visa without a company's sponsorship. On top of that, since bf is Spanish, do you know if he'll have to go to England on his own first and plant some roots? In other words, rent a place, get a job, bank account, etc? Well, I think that'll do it for now. If nothing else, thanks for being a great sounding board; I really appreciate it! Take care and have a lovely evening~~~
