Newborn child settlement visa help
« on: June 13, 2017, 07:41:30 PM »
Hi there,
My husband and I are both settled in the UK. Our son was born in New York mid April and we applied for his settlement visa to join us in the U.K with priority within a week of him being born.

We are now in our 6th week (26 BD) and have heard nothing so far.

We have emailed/called/had our local MP send an enquiry and have gotten nowhere.

Anyone with similar experience applying for a settlement visa for a newborn? Or any idea on what we can do to expedite it?

We just can't leave him here awaiting his visa and at the same time have jobs/responsibilities back home to get to.

Hi  Rschaudh, welcome and congrats on the little one.  :)

Did you buy priority processing for the application?

What visas do you and your husband currently hold?

Unfortunately the processing for a newborn is not treated any differently than any other visa applicant.

Hoping that maybe your status allows you to register the child as British and that you don't actually need a visa for him or her.

I will add that having used priority, it'll probably only be up to two more weeks for processing based on recent timelines.

Both of us have ILR and are due to apply for citizenship Jan 2018 so he can't be registered as British until then I believe. Hence we applied for an ILE for him as that was what the website seemed to suggest.

And yes we applied priority.

Sorry, I missed that in your first post.  :)

Yes, that's the right thing to do in your circumstances. Hopefully you won't have much longer to wait.  :)

Larrabee thanks for the wishes! Unfortunately what should be an amazing time has turned out to be most stressful with me being stuck here with the baby alone in temp housing refreshing my emails every minute that I can and husband shuttling back and forth between London/NYC yet missing out on all the "firsts"  :\\\'(

Completely understand the frustration.
We have a few timeline threads going on at the moment. Feel free to join in, you'll have company while you wait at least.  :)

You have my sympathy.  I had my boy on the 27th of April (in the UK) and I can't even fathom not being "home" right now.

I've had several friends adopt or do surrogacy in other countries and have seen their separations as well.  Tough times.  But hopefully it will soon be forgotten!

I hope you are getting more sleep than I am at least.   ;)  My little guy is a tough one!

No sleep I am afraid between the 8 week old and the tension of the visa!

Thanks for the good vibes though!
