EEA Residence Certificate and FM Residence Card processing
« on: July 05, 2017, 08:56:47 AM »
I am assuming, from everything I can find on Google searches, that we will not see our documents again until at least Christmas, and possibly mine (certificate) before my daughter's (FM card). We sent in everything on Monday.  Has anyone had any recent experience with obtaining these documents and a timeline?

It is my understanding that, once we receive notice from them that they have received the applications (they do have them, sent them Royal Mail signed-for, but "officially" received), we can request the passports back. Daughter needs hers for her University in September, so hopefully we'll receive notice and be able to request it before then.  She can't travel outside the country to academic conferences, however, until she gets that residence card (or she can't get back in), so we're curious if anyone has gotten their docs in less than the expected 6 month wait, recently?

Thanks.

It should have been an RC for your daughter. I assume that is what you meant?

Are you kidding?  ;D 3 million EEA  citizens and ?,000,000s of non-EU citizens using EU route/rulings already in the UK (some who had no legal status in the UK once entering under EU regs and shoud have left); plus all those that have arrived/are arriving since the UK voted Leave last June; plus those who have to re-apply as they didn't read about the proof required for RCs or didn't bother to read the 2004 Directive on what they must do to be legally in another EEA country (not everyone is as thorough as you and reads what they must do  :) )- nobody can even guess how long these will take.

The UK also brought in the DCPR (EEA citizens) and PRCs (for 3rd country nationals) as one of the requirements for these for British citizenship too, just a few months before the UK voted.

There will be EU forums with timelines, but the longer it goes on, the more people will arrive hoping to be in before the cut-off date and I assume, the longer the waiting time will be.

Your daughter can use her FP for university. I know they will require the RC (as proof that you, her EEA sponsor, was exercising treaty rights when that RC was issued) but I'm sure they will know about this massive rush for UK RCs by millions of people before the UK closes it doors. You could talk to the university's International Advisor about this wait and see what they say?.

The uni doesn't care about the residence card, they want to see her original passport with the family permit. We'll request it back once we have notice that the HO has received it. If we can't get it back by the start of the term, we have made an alternate agreement with them. We did offer to trot it over there in person prior to sending it in to HO, but they need to see it at the start of the term, not now.

The running timelines seem to be about 6 months, and a few people have gotten them in 4 - but they seem rare - from what I see online on the various websites where people post their timelines.  Hopefully it'll be here before January, as she'll need to go to professional/academic conferences in Europe as part of her studies, and won't be able to without it or risk not getting back into the UK.

Yes, FM Residence Card.

Yeah, I was kind of like "WTF?" The thing isn't going to transmogrify into some other document in two months. The family permit is valid until October. It would be valid until October if they look at it now, or it would be valid until October if they look at it in September. But they said "the rules" said they had to see it at the beginning of the term to verify it was good.

What.Ev.Er. ::)

Hi Nan,

I (dual EU/American national) followed the crowd and put in for a EEA registration certificate for proof of residence for whenever the cutoff is done.  My forms were received on April 10 at the Home Office per royal mail (sent them my National ID Card).   I received email that I they received my application on June 5 and received the registration certificate last week I think it was July 6 so hopefully you won't have to wait to long.

Thanks!  That's a lot faster than I expect to  hear from them. Would be nice to be pleasantly surprised, though, and get the docs before Christmas.
