I gotta ask, where do you live? Eating out for me isn't terribly expensive. Husband and I go to some nice restaurants for under $30. Some of the chains we like are the same price, TGIFridays, Byron Burger, Nandos. Some of our local chain pubs are nice for what they are. But there's only one I really like. The other two can be hit or miss on the menu for me. I have not completely warmed to British menus. ![Embarrassed :-[](https://www.talk.uk-yankee.com/Smileys/classic/embarrassed.gif)
We lived near Salisbury for the first four years, but now we've moved to just north of Swansea. I wasn't a massive fan of TGIFriday's in the US, so (having tried other UK versions of US chains and been disappointed--particularly, my sad, sad Five Guys experience!
![Sad :(](https://www.talk.uk-yankee.com/Smileys/classic/sad.gif)
) I haven't bothered with it over here. But Byron Burger.... yes! When we were in London for a weekend getaway, we ate there three times! We also enjoyed a meal at Wahaca one night.
In Salisbury, there was an unremarkable little Italian place up a narrow staircase above some other shops that was really good and very affordable. The lack of nearby parking made going a bit of an ordeal, so we only had it a few times. There wasn't much else near there that we enjoyed and could justify.
Since moving to our new house in Wales, we discovered a place that was at the higher end of prices, but it got rave reviews, so when my in-laws came to see our new house and celebrate with us, we went there... and it was so good that I don't even mind that it was £120 for the four of us to have lunch. Otherwise, there's just fast food (McDonald's and KFC) and fish&chip shops (one very good, and one very
very bad!) near us. For more, we'd have to drive down to Swansea or up to Carmarthen.
