So all I can find are Christmas cards
« on: December 05, 2004, 10:16:33 PM »
Not holiday cards, or hannakah, kwanzaa, yule.  Just Christmas everywhere.

My DH asked in a card shop today, 'Do you have any simply 'holiday' cards?' and the storeperson said, 'You'll just have to look.'

The other thing we've noticed living here is co workers sending 'Happy Christmas!' (via email) to co workers who are open about practicing Judaism.  Or secular humanism.

It seems the assumption is Christmas, no other celebrations.

Maybe because we live 25 miles or so outside of London?  Thinking London would have more of a representation of seasonal celebrations.

Feedback welcome!

I do my husband's Christmas cards for his multi-national/religious employees.  I've had no problem finding "season's greetings" cards.  No tree, no religious symbols, etc.  As a matter of fact, I saw some in Tesco the other day.

We are about 30 miles northeast of London.

We must have looked in the wrong card shops on the High Street.  I will look at Tesco tomorrow, that is a great idea, thank you!

I've seen them in Clinton's  and other card shops too, but it's like the clerk says, you do have to look for them -- the aren't as prominent as the Xmas variety.  ;)

That is odd because I have problems finding cards  with just the Nativity on it..  hmm. I may have  to go to the  church store  which has  funky  hours  like  10-12 am  but not wednesdays!! LOL!   European hours  indeed!!

Or you could make your own.
My sweet wife makes cards for all ocasions.
Here is an example.

Print it on card stock and hey presto, you have a unique card.

that's an excellent point - for those that have time or are craftily inclined it's quite simple to make your own cards.

Yes, Good point. The cards Mrs C makes are hand made. They are beautiful. What I posted was just a scan of the front page of one.

We have also made some where we used some of the photographs I took.

This was a seasonal contribution.
Use it if you want to, but acknowledge it as an "from ndm"

oooooooo Now THAT'S customer service!!

I was just thinking the other day that I really miss HALLMARK -- or that little hole in the wall card store near the Pike Place Market that used to sell "interesting" cards -- cards worth the SHOCK VALUE!  ;)

I made all of my Christmas cards this year as well, but I usually do anyway. That way I can send out exactly the right message - - - but I do have to start making them in November.  ::)
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

 :D

I say that every year and end up not sending any.  My mother gave me some cards that look homemade so I don't have any excuse this year.

Charity shops like Oxfam often sell cards with Nativity scenes. Our local library also has stalls selling charity Christmas cards during weekends up to Christmas.

UNICEF (United Childrens International Childrens Fund) sell cards with non-religious greetings - see: http://www.supportunicef.org/site/pp.asp?c=iuI1LdP0G&b=45842
