lost BRP
« on: November 17, 2017, 07:51:38 PM »
Hey all,

so a few hours ago I lost my wallet in Sainsbury's, probably stolen with my BRP in it. I'm on a Tier4 visa and I have an appointment on the 15th of December to switch to FLR (M).

I Don't know what to do? I am really panicking right now and I'm hoping whoever took it or found it gives it back. :(

So sorry that happened to you, but don’t panic (though for future reference, it’s best not to carry your BRP around with you - it should be kept in a safe, secure place with your passport).

I would report it to the local police and then also report it to UKVI:

It says UKVI will contact you within 1 working day so hopefully you can get something sorted out for your FLR(M) appointment.

Thanks! do you have any idea what happens? I am currently working part-time and I'm worried how it would affect my job.

I really don’t know to be honest - I think you’ll just need to wait until UKVI contact you to find out what happens.

Your employer should have a photocopy of your passport and BRP anyway, and if you’re applying for FLR(M) in a few weeks, you’ll have a new one soon anyway.

I think the pressing issue might be whether it will affect your FLR(M) appointment - I would hope they can sort something out for attending the appointment... but you’ll have to see what they say.

The theft of your BRP won't affect your job as you have permission to work in the UK in line with your Tier 4 visa. As ksand said, the employer will have a copy of your BRP for their records. They won't know your BRP was stolen.

Even if they did carry out a random check in the next few days before you resolve this with UKVI, the employers know about these government services they can use to check the persons status in the UK.

Oh that makes me happy! Replacing a BRP is expensive!
