Moved to UK questions about set up for next FLR application
« on: October 29, 2017, 02:00:58 PM »
Hey so I’ve just moved to the UK on the spouse visa we are trying to get me added onto everything ready for the next visa but we were just wondering what exactly should we focus on having done that the UKVI will be specifically looking at. Also do I need to have a job because I was just gonna stay at home with my girls but wasnt sure if it was required for the next visa to prove center of life.
Thanks

No, you don’t need to work - as long as your UK spouse can meet the financial requirement for the next visa in 2.5 years, it doesn’t matter if you work or not.

The only thing you need to do at the moment is get your life set up in the UK:

- add your name to bills
- turn off paperless for all your bills, so they are all mailed to you and start collecting them
- register with a GP
- open a bank account
- if you wish to work in the UK, apply for a National Insurance number

No real time limit.

For the next visa, you need to show 2 years worth of mail in both your names, so you have a few months of leeway. If you can’t get things in joint names, you’ll need a nice mixture of official mail in each name... so don’t change everything to your name or he won’t have any mail to show in his name.

The ‘some sort of number’ the GP sent you was your NHS number - it’s unique to you and is your identification number in the NHS system - it’s used to keep track of your medical records.

For the National Insurance number, some people get one if they will be making extra National Insurance contributions or need it for other things... but if you don’t plan to work, it’s probably not vital. You may need to show you are looking for work in order to get one.
