Same here! :) My dad taught me and I drove any time I could with someone in the passenger seat. I then had around 6 lessons I think before sitting my test.

;D I had lessons with an instructor, after work, in the dark in winter. Learning on London roads was not nice if the qualified driver didn't have dual controls. I had to give up a few hours on a precious Saturday to experience driving in the day light, ready for my test. When my instructor saw a speeding driver, he always used to say  "Let them go, they have an appointment with death" and that still pops into my mind when a speeder rushes past. ;D

As these bad drivers usually end up killing their passengers or strangers instead, it's really good to see the recent increased fines for speeders and the new law changes that are comimg in.

Killer drivers to receive life sentences in law change

Road safety charity Brake said it was a "major victory" for victims' families.

It follows criticism that sentences for those convicted over road deaths were too lenient.

Thanks to living in London and San Francisco, I can parallel Park like a mad man.  Boom! Boom! Boom!

I love a good road trip but I'm not sure paying a huge amount to a driving instructor and driving for 8 hours is such a great idea.

Nan, you are right to be concerned about the sat navigation thing.  I constantly battle against distraction and having my phone / satnav sitting there doesn't make it easier.  Distraction was the reason I had my first accident in 20 years lately.

Am I right that there is still nothing about motorways?  I thought they were going to change the law so that a learner driver could go on the motorway with an instructor.

The law is changing and this was announced in August 2017.

Learner drivers in England, Wales and Scotland will be allowed to have lessons on the motorway by next year, the government has announced.

The Department for Transport (DfT) said lessons would be in a dual-control car with an approved driving instructor.

Currently only those who have passed their test can drive on a motorway, but in 2015 the DfT said it would consider a law change

I find that I am constantly reversing into parking spaces in this country as the parking lots are so small it makes it easier to get out of them!! Gotten used to it now !!
My home for 18 years since June 2002. Became a citizen 2006
