Applying for the UK Fiance Visa in Prague, Czech Republic
« on: November 21, 2017, 09:20:42 AM »
Hello,

Has anyone ever applied for this in Prague? I am an American currently living here and my fiance is in the UK.  Does anyone know how long it takes to get the visa? Did you pay for priority? If so, how long did it take?  It seems that the only option for priority is 640 EUR (for the settlement visa) and you will get the visa within 15 days... Is that correct?

Thank you very much.

Just replied in your other thread - it may be 15 working days but we’ve seen priority visas from some countries take anything up to 60 working days this year... so I wouldn’t rely on a 15-working-day turnaround.

Priority will speed up the processing tome in general though, so I always recommend using it if you can afford to.

I was living in Prague back in 2000 and got a visa with my French wife to come live in the UK.  We did everything at the Embassy .  It was cheap and no problem, and I’ve been living in London for 17 years.  hope it works out the same for you.

Bring me some fried cheese and dark beer please.

The visa process has changed drastically since 2000... it's not quite that easy anymore, and certainly not cheap (the spousal visa and IHS surcharge is £2,064, plus an extra £551 for priority processing).

Oh I know all that.  But she did ask if anyone did it in Prague and I just couldn’t resist declaring my love for Czech beer.

Thank you so much!

You both have been extremely helpful.  I didn't fully realize that I needed to turn in my actual passport so I think it's best that I reschedule my appointment (hopefully I can do so without charge) for January and stay in Prague.

I will fully enjoy dark beer and fried cheese for longer now.

Cheers!

No problem :).

Yeah, unfortunately, no passport means no visa, because they cannot even start processing your application without the passport, and they can't issue the visa without it either.

On the plus side, processing times are usually faster in Jan/Feb than they are in Nov/Dec because there's usually a rush leading up to Christmas :).

This is from the UKVI website:

Quote
All applications must be accompanied by a valid passport with at least one page without any endorsements. If the application arrives at the decision making centre without a passport the application will be refused

It's from the 'Apply for a UK visa in the USA' page, but it applies to all applications:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/usa-apply-for-a-uk-visa/apply-for-a-uk-visa-in-the-usa#post-your-application

Have you actually submitted your application yet?

I have.... but it seems you can ask for a refund and then reschedule? Is that true?

Ah, I see!  :) Yes, as long as you have not attended biometrics you can.

I have not! Isn't that after the visa application appointment?

I hope this means I can get a full refund but it seems on a case by case basis.
Stated on the VISA GOV UK website.. I will ask them tomorrow morning (before my appointment) if it is a free to use service here in Prague as it is not stated.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS APPLIES ONLY IF YOU ARE TRYING TO UPDATE OR CANCEL YOUR APPOINTMENT

Important: if you amend or cancel your appointment booking within 5 days of the appointment date you will lose your Visa Application Centre fee and will only be permitted to rebook your new appointment at a free to use Visa Application Centre.

If no free to use Visa Application Centre is available in your location you will need to select "View Payment" from the main page, apply for a visa fee refund and restart the application process.

You will give your biometrics at the appointment.

As long as you have not given biometrics yet, you can cancel the whole application and apply for a refund... however, it can take about 3 months to get the refund money back.

If you want to cancel the application and get a refund you need to do it through the visa4UK online application site:
https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/Home/ViewFAQ

The part you have quoted is only for changing/cancelling your appointment, not for cancelling the entire visa application.

How's life in Prague?  Where do you work?  Where do you drink and how much is a pint these days?
