Confusion on cash savings for marriage visa
« on: November 17, 2017, 03:12:36 PM »
So I know I need to have evidence that I had the money for 6 months before applying. Does this have to be the same 6 months across all accounts? For example, if account 1 has a statement generated on may-november 25th, but account 2 generates on may-november 20th, do I have to wait another month to apply?

No, it doesn't need to be the same date on all statements.

As long as the lowest balance of each account over the  full 6 month period added together equals more than $62,500 and the most recent statement of each account is dated within 28 days of the application date, that's all that matters.

Depending on the way the dates fall and how long you've had enough money in the accounts, you may need an extra statement for one of them. The alternative is to visit a branch and have them print out (and stamp) the last 6 months for each account.

You do need to make sure that you have a full 6 months of statements for each account though - you can’t even be 1 day short of the 6 months, so just check that each set of statements  covers the whole period.

Sorry, I think I'm still a bit confused. I just want to make sure 100% that I can send off my application without being rejected.

So I have an account's statements from may 25th-november 25th, that covers 6 months. And then I include statements for another account for may 20th-November 20th, so those 6 months are covered.  Larrabee, you mentioned that I may need an extra statement to cover the 6 months, would I need to have an extra statement in this case?

Or is this extra statement in the case where Account 1's May statement was on the 27th, while November's statement was on the 25th, then I would need an extra statement?

And you also mentioned going to a bank and getting them to print out the last 6 months. Do these have to be statements or just online records of account activity?

In that case, you would need to send an extra (April) statement for the account that starts May 25th otherwise the 20th -24th would not be covered.

Full page print outs by the bank of all the account activity for the full 6 months would work too. That's what I have used.

Darn, looks like I'm stuck in the US another month. :(

But if I could get the bank to print out and stamp my account activity for the second account from november 20th-november 25th, and that would count?

Yes, that would count.  More than 6 months for either/both accounts are fine as long as the same 6 months is actually covered at the same time. And of course that the lowest balances added together (at any time during that period) meet or exceed the required amount.

Hi all,

I am in the process of sponsoring my wife who lives overseas. My annual income is above the legal threshold of 18.600. However, the monthly rent of the 3-bed house that I rent for the last 8 years is 1700. My solicitor thinks this might constitute a reason for HO to refuse on the grounds of "affordability" as the rent is remarkably higher compared to my monthly income. Some other solicitors that I consulted rule this out and claim that HO is only interested in our income, not outgoings. I have been sub renting two of my rooms for the last 10 months and asked my accountant to include this in my tax returns this year. I, technically, pay like 650 rent at the end of the month with all the bills and councils tax included.

I am deeply concerned about this issue and literally stuck at the moment. Does my outgoings have considerable bearing on my income which is 28.375 for the last 12 months. Any opinion and advice is greatly appreciated indeed!

Many thanks
