Winter is fun. It would be nice if it snowed, tho!
I just finally got around to turning our heating boiler on for the year yesterday, as the Daughter was having company over and I didn't want them to be uncomfortable. We are happy keeping the place in the low 60Fs, which is where our flat seems to remain most days recently on its own - I assume due to the kindness and heat of those above and below, and next-door to us, and the double-glazing, etc. But it seems people here are used to having flats be a little warmer and she was having a party, so I turned it on and found it works nicely. I call the line at 60F - and yesterday (or Friday?) morning it was in the 50Fs in my kitchen when I stumbled out for my tea and toast. I'm too old and cranky to wander around chilled, in sweats, socks, slippers, and robe, so we now have the heat on. Technically. It's set at 60F for days, 65F for evenings, and then way low overnight. (I'm also a cheapskate.)
Last week the thermometer stuck to the outside of my kitchen window was reading below 0 celsius many mornings, and one day (Thursday?) most of the day it was just above.
So I'm good with that, as long as the wind isn't blowing and I'm not getting rained on. I have lots of good coats/scarves/gloves. I went out one day last week, though, when it was not supposed to rain. Went to city center and it came down in buckets. (Silly me, no umbrella.) And then it got breezy as I was walking home from the bus stop, which annoyed my lungs. And I haven't actually felt completely warm since. I have had an awful lot of tea, too!
