FLR(M) In-Person Application at Glasgow
« on: January 04, 2018, 05:15:57 PM »
We attended our appointment today in Glasgow for my husbands FLR(M).  I am happy to report he was approved and we should have his BRP within the next 10days.  Dew to the severe weather across Scotland we decided to travel from Dundee to Glasgow yesterday just so we knew we would be on time for our appointment.

We arrived at the UKVI Glasgow Premium Service Centre 15 minutes before our appointment time of 11am.  Once we went through security we were directed to booth 1 where all our paperwork was checked and put in the order they wanted it in, we were then told to take a seat and my husband would be called for his Biometrics and once that was completed the paperwork would be allocated to a immigration officer for processing.

We waited about 35 minutes then we were called for the Biometrics to be done then back to the waiting area for the processing of the paperwork. We got excited when just 20 minutes later we were called by the officer who was dealing with our application to booth 5.  He needed to check with us about the way our US Social Security payments are made into our UK accounts.  We had to explain that the amount changes every month because of the exchange rate and the date can change because it is payable on the 3rd of each month but if that falls on a weekend or holiday then it is paid early.  He seemed satisfied with that and said he would continue checking our application and should be done soon! so back to the waiting area for us..

At just after 1pm we were called again by the officer and this time he said Congratulations your further leave to remain has been approved and your will receive your BRP in the mail within the next 10 days.  He then explained that we can apply for ILR 28 days before the 22 April 2020  and up to the last day of the visa 13 July 2020.  He thanked us for having well organized evidence and wished us a safe journey home to Dundee. We are now home, exhausted but happy that we are done for another 30 months..

Thank you to everyone who gave advice and guidance, you are the best....

Its the best feeling, we were going to do the application by post but my husbands mother died suddenly in Nov and we had to delay applying until just a few days before his entry visa expires. We also did not want to be without a passport as his father is 93 and now on his own..

Now we need to look at what comes next and what evidence we need to gather for that.

Plus, the Life in the UK test pass certificate.  If he hasn't taken it, he should look into it.  He'll want to study.

I used an Android app sold by TSO to study.  I read through the complete "study" section over the course of several nights, then I started taking practice tests... at the weekend, my husband and I would take turns doing practice tests and competing for best score.  We both learned a lot about useless UK history and culture (the test has so little relevance to actual life in the UK!).

Looking back, it was kind of fun, now that my right to be in the country isn't on the line, anymore.  ;)

Happy to report the BRP arrived in the mail today, so we are done until 28 days before the 5 year anniversary of our arrival in the UK about the 26 March 2020..  Wonder how much the rules will change before then???
