Relocating
« on: December 06, 2017, 04:22:16 PM »
Hi everyone,

My wife and I are currently moving back to the UK from the states( I'm a UK citizen) and we are going to be living with my friends until we get settled.
The immigration paperwork says we need to send a copy of the land registry along with our application, here is my question. Would a photocopy of said friends property deed also work or do I have to apply online for the land registry?
Thanks in advance.

A regular photocopy would not be enough, it would have to be certified or you can get the online copy for $3.

You need the official Land Registry, which can be downloaded from the Land Registry website for a small fee (about £3), then printed.

It's really straightforward and pretty much everyone on the forum has done it this way.

You just need to go here, search for the property and download it:

I have tried to get a copy of the land registry off of the .gov website, but it didn't recognize the address. Is it a different site if the address is in scotland?

Yes, Scotland has a separate Land Registry website.

You'll need to try here instead:
https://www.ros.gov.uk/property-data

I think it's a slightly different method for getting it though, and it may cost a bit more.

When we moved back.....my wife's parents had to request a Land Registry from the council(I think.....and it cost them money). If the property hadn't changed hands for quite a while it seems that it doesn't get into the system.
