I am Glenn Spiteri aka bronxglenn. The name says it all. I was born in The Bronx, NYC in 1951.
I have spent my entire life shuffling between New York and Scotland, mostly Livingston in Scotland.
A retired wedding photographer I travel the world with my Scottish wife Gina, a retired schoolteacher.
We have had 4 Dalmatians. Lola, our current dalmatian is 12 years old and will probably be our last pet due to our age. At 66 a 13 year commitment is a bit to optimistic.
I only found this site today while internet searching for American dill pickles. I am going round the bend looking for an NYC standard of pickle..............as well as sauerkraut, pizza, potato knish!!
NYC standard of pickle... is that like the kind you find in the refrigerator case in US supermarkets by Claussen? Extra garlicky, served cold? Would a kosher deli have something? There's one called Mark's Deli in Giffnock, near Glasgow that looks promising, but I can't see their products online.
http://www.marksdeli.co.uk/index.htmlIf you want just a standard dill pickle without sugar in, there's a Polish brand that's good. Dawtona Soured Gherkins (do
not get "pickled gherkins" as those have sugar in them... make sure it says
soured).
For sauerkraut, I get the same polish brand, Dawtona, and have found it to be good.
For pizza, you're not going to find NYC pizza here ... you can get Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Papa John's, but I don't expect you'll get a local NYC pizza experience unless you make it yourself.
