Hello from WA State
« on: November 30, 2004, 02:31:51 AM »
Hello from Tacoma, WA.  I am so happy to have found this forum.  I lived in Lynton (N Devon) where I volunteered at Lee Abbey (a christian conference centre) for the last year.   I met my boyfriend (who is from Reading) there, and he came back with me to the States for his first visit to see if he might want to make his home in the US.   After much discussion of where our home will be after we are married, it's been decided that it will be England.  It's been so helpful for me to find this site and read what others have gone through (finance visa, things people miss in the US, etc.).    Though I won't be moving to the UK until next fall (er, autumn),  I look forward to learning from your experiences.   I enjoyed living in Lynton, but it is a small village, and I think it will be quite a different experience to live in a big city (I suppose you can't classify Reading as a city, but you all know what I mean, a town with a substantial population.)

-Rebecca

I was just in Tacoma this weekend!!

I'm from Cle Elum, lived in Scotland from 2001 until a couple of months ago.  The DF and I are planning to settle in Seattle after our wedding.

Anyhow, welcome the the forum...I am sure you will find it very helpful!  Good luck!

Hi Beckers and welcome to UKY!  We too started off in the USA and after three years are in the UK.  Who knows where we will wind up next!

Hi, Rebecca!

My wife, Jane, and I will be moving in May from Seattle to Exeter-- not a "small village," to be sure, but hopefully as pleasant to live in as Lynton-- or Reading, for that matter.

If there's any way we can help each other negotiate the big move, be sure to let me know.

Ken

Hello Rebecca - welcome to UK-Y.  :)  Reading's just down the road from me (although I haven't been there yet.   :-X).  I don't know if you're into crafty things at all, but I understand that in addition to some pretty good normal shops, there's also a craft superstore in Reading.  :)

Hi :) I grew up in Tacoma too and now make my home in Bellevue. I'm moving on Monday to Farnborough which is just down the road from Reading. I'm going for 6 months on BUNAC card and will be there until June and plan on marrying my sweetheart in September and settling over there.
