Travelling without residence permit?
« on: July 25, 2018, 02:08:23 PM »
Hi everyone, our FLR(M) was approved yesterday!!!

We were wondering
1. how quickly people usually receive the residence permit
2. What happens if you’re not home when the courier comes
3. Whether we can travel without the residence permit or whether we should wait to receive it?

On the letter they advise you not to travel until you have it but it doesn’t say why!

Basically we’d like to finally go on a honeymoon before he starts working, and need to know whether we’re going to spain for a week or Cornwall for a weekend :P

It can take anywhere from a couple of days to about 10 days to receive. Think they just post it through, but can't remember as it's been awhile...

You HAVE to have it to re-enter the UK as it is your visa and proves you have the right to live and work here. If you try to enter without it, you could be bounced...
2004-2008: Student Visa
2008-2010: Tier 1 PSW
2010-2011: Tier 4
2011-2014: Tier 2
2013-2016: New Tier 2 (changed jobs)
16/12/15: SET (LR) successful! - It's been a long road...
12/05/16: Citizenship ceremony!

Congratulations :D!

1. It normally takes about 4 days to receive the BRP. I’d imagine you’ll either have it by the end of this week or early next week

2. I think you may need to reschedule the delivery if you miss it

3. No, you cannot travel without the BRP, because it is your visa and it is what will let you back into the country. Without the BRP you may not be allowed back in.

Dx will be the delivery company that delivers the BRP.  If you miss the delivery, you reschedule.  For a small fee, you can pay for a timeslot.

They usually come sooner rather than later. Definitely wait for it.  :)

Interesting. My BRP wasn't delivered, I arranged for collection at the post office in Durham, which was the nearest location available to where we live. To me that seemed easier than relying on a delivery.

As for needing it to return into the UK, the above posters are correct. I took it when we went to Majorca in April, and the agent at customs wouldn't have let me back through without it.

I think you are talking about  getting your BRP after entering on a spouse visa?

We're talking here about FLR(M) where the process is different.  :)
