Trump Is Coming - crowdfund the resistance!
« on: May 22, 2018, 09:39:40 AM »
Help fund the protests against Donald Trump's visit on July 13

https://www.crowdpac.co.uk/campaigns/4144/stoptrump

From the site:
We urgently need funds to organise a nationwide mobilisation against the impending visit. The money raised from this crowdfunder will be used to pay for the costs of stages, screens, generators, stewarding materials and other immediate costs of upcoming actions organised through the Stop Trump Coalition.

I've donated because I value the constitution.

I got a message they've suspended their UK operations :( I hope there will be some solid demonstrations with Trumps visit.

The link you posted wouldn't open, so I tried directly without the https and it sent me over to their US site with a note about suspending UK operations. *sigh* That's weird they would take money and not notify the people who have donated?

Yes, let's alienate the world's #1 superpower and long-time ally because we don't like the president. That's a great winning strategy for a country to take.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is real and apparently it had infected many here in the UK as well. Oh, and don't look now, but in 18 months the evil Trump has...

- unemployment at a near 20 year low
- black and Hispanic employment at an all-time low
- women unemployment at a 65 year low
- GDP growth in Q2 2018 projected at 4.8%
- small business optimism at an all-time high
- lower taxes resulting in 3.4 million new jobs since taking office
- slashing job killing regulations
- bye bye job killing TPP
- bye bye money pit Paris Accord
- bye bye awful Iran deal
- soon to be bye bye job killing NAFTA
- ISIS destroyed
- on the verge of ending the 70 year Korean War and achieving the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula

Yes, why on earth would the UK want anything to do with a maniac like that?

Most of the economic issues are leftovers from the previous administration. You don't get numbers like that in 18 months. Seriously.

Job-killing regulations. Like environmental protection laws. Gasp, of course, money is entirely more important than safety.

Trump destroyed ISIS? Oh, po-leeze.

Yeah, right.

End of anything political I'll post on this board, as it's pointless.

I fear that the way you call people "Loony Left" means that nothing will be accomplished by trying to engage with you.  You are just going to throw out the same old "our team is best" talking points from Fox news.  It's a shame that our country has gotten to this point, where we can't even have a discussion.

However, I'll give it a go.  Can we focus on this one point though?  No name calling, no sarcasm, let's just consider your central argument that the UK should show respect to Donald Trump and flatter him on his upcoming visit because it's beneficial to be on Trump's good side.  If we don't alienate Trump, he'll be our ally.

Id argue that was precisely the strategy that France tried, Macron threw a giant military parade in his honour and shamelessly flattered Trump.  Unfortunately, it has gotten France nothing.  Trump was not influenced at all when it came to things that France wanted, like staying in the Pais accord or staying in the Iranian Nuclear deal.  Theresa May went there, offered him a state visit and even HELD HIS HAND on the stairs.  Trump's love lasted about a week before he was attacking her and the UK on Twitter again.  It simply doesn't work to try and be Trump's ally, he has no loyalty of any kind to anyone  other than Putin.  All of our traditional allies were roundly dismissed at the G7 conference , France included.  Flattery got them nowhere.

So here's my question for you -  What do you think it means for American influence in the world if everyone has figured out that you can't do a deal with Trump?  Politics is the art of influence, I'll support you if you do this for me later.  Please explain to me how it makes America great again on the world stage if we can't influence anyone because Trump is so untrustworthy?

Oh so President Trump - and by extension, and implicitly, his supporters - can get slagged off endlessly with nothing said. Then someone on the other side presents an argument - facts, actually, nothing to be argued - and here comes the referee?

In the past I've been encouraged to not engage in political banter in the main thread for visas. Fair enough, even though I'd argue they've been legitimate tangents. This is a separate thread for news, unrelated to visas, it's not off topic in the slightest. I just have a differing perspective than the mob.

So much for "debate being encouraged".

Carry on with the baseless hate, I suppose.

Moderator stepping in once more.

Disrespectful posts are deleted regardless of their targets.

If there's something a mod has missed that you feel is inappropriate, please flag the post so we take a look. We can't check every comments that's posted on UK Yankee. Reporting posts helps us to see what might need to be cleaned up.

As I said before, debate is fine and encouraged on the Politics branch, but it must be done respectfully, without anger, name calling and without expressing destructive views of another group of people (a user, a political view, a country or a culture).

Please continue discussing the topic if you wish, but if the tone shifts away from polite discussion, offending posts will be deleted and the thread will be locked.

Don't be so sure that the moderator's post wasn't aimed at me, not neccessarily just you.

I'm more than happy to follow the rules suggested and let's try to have a discussion about your point.

Topic of debate:  The UK should enthusiastically welcome Trump because it will benefit us as a country to be on his "good side".

My last post detailed how this has not worked for any of the traditional allies, who all tried to be nice to Trump.  Because there is now no actual way to "do politics" with Trump, the influence of the US will be severely limited in the future.  This is already making America considerably less great.

Go on lvjeremylv, you are up next
