proof that we lived together--please help
« on: July 30, 2018, 04:59:05 PM »
My husband and I got married in May and my two year visa in Scotland ended this month. I've had to come back to the States to apply from here for income reasons. My problem is that we didn't live together before we got married and as it was such a short time I was there after, I don't have much to prove that I lived there for a month and a half before coming back to the States. I have the lease with both of our names on it and a bank statement with our address on it. I also have a letter from our pastor explaining why we never lived together before we got married. My husband makes substantially more than me so he paid for all the bills. How much trouble am I in for proving that we lived together for that short amount of time before I had to leave the country?

I'd really appreciate your help!

What kind of visa were you on?  If you were on a visitor visa (stamp at the border), than you haven't technically lived together.  As you were just visiting.  You don't have to prove you've lived together as a requirement of the visa.  Are you looking at the bit for unmarried partners?  They are required to prove two years of living together.  For a new spouse visa, they will NOT expect you to have lived together at all.

You don't need the letter from the pastor.  UKVI will not look at any testimonials from other people other than the two of you.

No not a visitor visa. I was on a Tier 5 Temporary Worker visa. But the organisation that I worked for certified maintenance for me.

As KFdancer explained, there is nothing to worry about there. Just send what you have for the time you were living together.  You will be expected to show proof of your genuine relationship prior to getting married and since you have been living apart by means of Skype/email/phone logs, letters and cards etc.
