Actually, if you apply online for your provisional license without a UK passport they will send you paperwork in the post and you have to fill it out, send them a photo and your BRP.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Since you're here on a spousal visa you can take your driving test whenever.

I haven't decided which way to go yet for us. Yes, my husband is a British citizen, however, I'll be transferring over for work. So part of me thought it'll be easier to come over through a Work VISA sponsored by my company. That will be something I'll have to talk to my company about who handles all the VISA stuff. The goal though is we are moving permanently and I intend to apply for British citizenship when I've been there long enough.

You do save money by applying online, like £5?  I did mine online. 😊

It's not an ICT Tier 2 is it? Because those can't lead to citizenship or settlement.

ETA: Sorry is that was a bit blunt. I've got a migraine and I can't sleep.

Also, if you switch from a tier 2 to a spousal visa you 'reset the clock' and start from 0 again. It's not obvious that that happens. I'm KF or someone else will chime in on that.

Sorry, my fingers were typing faster then my brain.

What I meant was, it seemed like it may be easier to come over on a Tier 2 work visa and then switch to a spouse visa once we are over there. I know we could do the spouse visa but I just didnt want to have to sell my stock in order to have the £ requirement necessary. So I figured if I came over on a work visa for a while, that would establish me in a job and show I have the earnings necessary to meet the requirements of the spouse visa.

Again, its so so early in the stages. Once I start chatting with my companies transfer team I'll let them know everything and see how they guide me. They assist international transfers every day so I'm trying to "know enough" about it all without burdening myself TOO much that I drive myself crazy. At least not right now. ;)

I don't read the visa section very often anymore...
Is your spouse not able to sponsor you?

Do you know about the eligibility requirements for ILR on a Tier 2 visa? There's a minimum salary requirement unless you're working a job on the shortage list and those change yearly. And if you wanted to switch to the spouse visa after your first Tier 2 expires you would start over and have 5 years to ILR.

Yup, won't be a problem.

Sorry, didn't mean to shift this from a conversion about driver's licenses to one about VISA's. I don't want to interrupt the conversation. :)

We do it all the time! Haha. We just call it hijacking and it goes back to the original conversation again
