UK websites/apps that are "Must Haves"
« on: August 23, 2018, 06:30:22 PM »
When moving to a new country, everything that was familiar & that you took for granted is now foreign and it can take time to find some of those similar (or new!) things local to where you've moved. Everyone who currently lives there may take for granted that they are common knowledge. Today, I'm specifically thinking apps & websites. Most of the big, international companies either have apps that work internationally or they have local versions (ex: Amazon, Uber, Groupon, etc.)  But what about those UK specific ones that you've discovered since living there that you now "can't live without" or that you find really helpful?

I was wondering if we could start a list of UK specific apps/websites that you would give someone new to the country to help them get started.

For instance, since joining UK Yankee, I started a list for myself of sites that others have shared that I thought would be useful for when I get over there. Here are some of the ones I found and I thought maybe the rest of you could share some of the MUST HAVES that you have found over the years.

Great idea!   :)

I expect you'll get a lot of suggestions in the food category!  :)

Thanks. I tried leaving off the "big ones" that everyone can find themselves and really focus on stuff that people sitting at home in the US trying to research about living in the UK may not readily come across. I'm excited to see what others put as well. I love researching and hunting for stuff but I know not everyone enjoys it. :)

And remember you may not be able to download location based apps until you get a UK based phone or change your location with the company like Samsung and Google.

I have a US Amazon Prime AND a UK Prime membership but I can't watch UK based shows or get UK kindle books because even though they are seperate accounts, I am registered under the same email address. I also share my account with my US based kids so either I can't watch videos or download UK items or they lose their ability to get US digital content.

Our accounts are far too entangled to seperate them now.

Thank you for the information.

I listen to pandora all day at work. It won't work in the UK though. Is there a UK version/like website?
