My youngest was addicted to his pacifier so you almost never saw him without it. He learned to talk with it in his mouth. But usually all you heard was the sound of him sucking on it. I swear for the first 2 years he was like Maggie off The Simpsons. He was a super quiet baby. I'd almost forget he was even in the car when I was driving. At 2.5 years he had to give up his "*foofy" as he called it and he hasn't shut up yet. hehe :P Sometimes now (he's almost 11) when he's talking and talking and won't be quiet I tell him I wish I still had that foofy because I'd stick it in your mouth for some peace and quiet. It's a little joke between us.

* He called it a foofy because in (Mexican) spanish it's called a chupon and he couldn't pronounce it right and it came out foofy and it just stuck. I've now been informed that's the word some people use for umm...a certain part of the female anatomy. :o

you guys, these are really enjoyable to read ;D, I find it amazing how children learn and how they have such personalities from the beginning!

We are speaking only Spanish to our kid for now, but she has picked up a few English words.  One is 'funny' which she pronounces 'foony'.  She comes up to me and says 'mama, foony!' and then she falls over laughing.  I have no idea where she heard it but it is a source of neverending entertainment to her.

She also counts in 'Spanglish' --uno, dos, thwee, four, five, seis, seven, ocho, nueve, diez - almost always the same English numbers, even though I always do all in Spanish.
