Did I mention the worse thing about Taco Bell?  Nobody has any idea what to order, and the cashiers might as well be selling Chinese Dictionaries for all they know.  Seriously, hearing a 4 minute conversation between a British guy and a Portuguese cashier trying to figure out what a taco is while I wait to order.  I was about to jump the counter and just take care of it.

EVERY question required the assistance of a manager, even "does this have guacamole on it"

My husband didn't know what a taco was until he met me. I'm saving his foray into the world of Mexican food until I take him to North Carolina next summer. Thankfully Raleigh has a large Mexican population and it's fairly easy to find real Mexican food there.

I loved Five Guys in the US.  When I finally got to take my husband to one here, I was so excited.  But then it was soooo appallingly bad I can't get him to go back (and I don't really try, because food shouldn't make me cry, but that food did).  Maybe it was a one-off, ... I mean, I don't see how that could be the quality standard and they manage to stay in business.  But the risk of fresh disappointment is not worth it to me.

And your review of Taco Bell is why I'm afraid to go to one here!  I don't want the UK Five Guys experience at my beloved Taco Bell.  I would just die inside.
The Five Guys I've been to in London, Birmingham New Street and Derby have all been great. Fries striaghy from the fryer and burgers fresh off the grill.

And Taco Bell in Nottingham and Sheffield were both tasty. Though a weird frozen strawberry drink was just gross.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

We've been happy with The Handmade Burger Co and the other burger place right next to Five Guys on St Vincent's St.

We were just down there for dinner and Tim Horton's Timbits on Saturday night.

The Daughter wants Timbits. Makes some ...somewhat questionable...comments about the name, but says they are to die for.  ;D

Five Guys.  Yeah, the first one we tried, over in Intu Braehead, was just not good. The fries weren't right, the hot-dogs were marginally cooked, the onions were the wrong flavor (yes, there are different onion flavors, for the non-onion-lover!).  The one down on St. Vincent street is great. They do have the music on pretty loud, but not as much as the one back in the States we used to go to. (I have enough trouble hearing without having to have the cashier shout into my ear over the music!) And it was really nice eating my hot dog (I won't pay that much for a burger) and fries while listening to Buddy Holly.  The both of us usually each get a hot dog with toppings, split a small fries, and drink water with the meal, and it's about 11 pounds.

Burger King here tastes like Burger King at home, for the desperate.

Well, they aren't to die for but they are as close as I can get to Dunkin Donuts chocolate cake donuts.

I really, really want chocolate sour cream donuts. Now those are to die for. Timbits are too dry. The chocolate filled Timbits are not nice at all. The chocolate filling has a very bad chemical taste. It was very off putting.

I’m sorry that y’all’s Taco Bell experiences have sucked so far. But if you’re willing to try again, I thought this may be of interest.

Yeah, no.   This was our third visit to the same Taco Bell. The first time we each had quesadillas.  The sauce on the quesadillas (we tried two different ones) was really ... weird. Certainly not what we were used to. I didn't finish mine. Which says something, as I'm so cheap my purse screams when I open it. I'm loath to not eat what I've paid for, unless it's really bad.  The tacos on trip two tasted different as well, but we chalked that up to grass-fed beef without all the fillers in it that they use in the USA. Again, the little packets of sauce we got were ...odd, localized I guess. But the tacos weren't bad. Not great, but not bad. Nothing to make a special trip to town for, though.  Trip three - seriously, a taco place with no beef? (And no sign up saying sorry - or even a "sorry" from the clerk?). The Spicey Chicken Griller (I think that is what they were) was truly awful. Cheapo nacho cheese stuff like on bad nachos at the movies, and I've no clue what they did to those poor jalepenos. Had a bit of a vinegary tast to them. Bleah.  So no more Taco Bell in Glasgow.

There's a great pizza place nearby, though. Pizza Punks. Reasonable, and tasty.

Huh.  I'm not a donut expert, but I do like 'em. We used to have these big twisty things with cinnamon and sugar all over them in Texas. Haven't seen them anywhere else. LOVED those.  I remember Dunkin Donuts from when I was just a little kid, Back East. I seem to remember them as being good, but my folks were health nuts so we almost never got food like that.

Will warn the Daughter about the choco-fills. She's still on her brutal diet, so she won't be eating there anytime soon anyway. (Seriously, 900 calories a day. It's rough watching her, but the pounds are definitely dropping off. So good on her!)

Yeah, it was kind of like that here, too, this last time. Huh. Bad training.

My very first job ever was at a local taco chain, similar to Taco Bell. The first night on the job the manager sat me in the lobby to read the sign, and by the third day I was expected to be able to quote the name of the item, the price, and what was in it without the aid of that sign. As I managed to do that, I remained employed. Miserable job, though. Standing next to vats of steaming hot-sauce, putting lettuce, tomato, and cheese (and sauce) on things as they were slid by on our assembly line. My feet used to hurt something awful by the end of the night.  Lasted a month.  ::)

It's strange... im not sure what the problem is at the Taco Bell in Glasgow.
It would seem to me that the UK ones should all be the same, but the food I got in Taco Bells in Sheffield and Manchester was really good, and the one time I've been to the Glasgow store, it was terrible.

Just saw there's a drive-thru Taco Bell opening in Irvine.  I would totally drive to Irvine to use the drive through rather than trying to get parked nearby and then standing in a ridiculous queue in the Glasgow store,  especially if there's a chance the food could be better!
