Hi people,
I have been (part time) job searching  and stumbled upon some article about this.
Clearly I won't be earning that much but I am curious to know if 70k really puts you on to the top 5

Yep, it does... and only 2% of the population earns above £100,000.

The average UK salary is about £27,000, and anything above about £35,000-40,000 is a very good salary (in fact, earning above £46,350 puts you in the 40% income tax bracket as opposed to the 20% income tax bracket).

As of 2016:

- 90% of the UK population earns less than £54,000 before tax

- 85% earns less than £45,000 before tax

- 80% earns less than £40,000 before tax

- 75% earns less than £35,000 before tax

- 50% earns less than £23,000 before tax

Salaries in the UK are generally much lower than the US.  There's a bit of a sticker shock element when job searching after you've moved here when you're used to a US salary.

There's also a massive regional difference between the south and North.
