Loving Autumn in the UK

I got here early Sept, when summer was ending and autumn was just beginning. I think it's been a nicer time of year than usual in regard to weather, (or so I've heard from locals), but I absolutely love the autumn here.  I'm in Wales at the moment but we live in Swindon. Swindon is nice as well, but I want to remark on the absolute beauty that is Wales in autumn. 


There's a constant light rain/mist, but it isn't too cold to not want to be outside. It's eerie...mysterious almost. And then as you drive up the hills,  the autumn colours pop out and it's so beautiful.

Back home, (South Louisiana), autumn is kind of non existent. I didn't like the weather at home at all. It was hot, humid, stormy...however, it was green and the spring was lovely. Autumn has always been my favourite season though, mainly  because I liked photos of it...the *idea* of it. But for the first time I feel like I'm in a country that *has* autumn and I absolutely love it.

Autumn is actually the one time of year that I can get SUPER homesick, but that's because I'm from New England where fall is anything but nonexistent  (oddly this year, however, I've been mostly okay but that's probably because I've just been so busy that I've not had time to feel that way).

I miss fall too. Minnesota is simply stunning in fall with all the maples and Colorado has the amazing aspen trees. Here, I love that I can wear my comfy sweaters and boots earlier than Colorado,but I would rather fall there. It gets brisk and cold and the colour is gorgeous. That or I need to get a house and plant some beautiful fall foliage trees.

While I love summer here (and in the US), I don't think I would love it quite as much if I got it for the majority of the year Luckily, in Boston we had all 4 seasons properly.

I miss the fall activities in New England...the apple picking, pumpkin flavoured everything, AMERICAN apple cider, pumpkin picking, halloween, the whole she-bang. I do enjoy it here as well but there are certain activities that it's just too hard to replicate.

Yeah, totally.   We've had amazing colours up this way this year, so it's been really nice.

Ha, been cold up here! I'm not hanging around outside very long!     (Except for Saturday, when it felt like a summer's day! 17C!)

Yeah, totally.   We've had amazing colours up this way this year, so it's been really nice.

ha we drove up to Whitby a few weekends ago and there was a surprising amount of beautifully coloured foliage! That did make me feel closer to New Hampshire in that moment.

I have been so homesick for all the fall activities. The trees changing, pumpkin everywhere, apple picking and apple cider, and the Halloween camaraderie of my old neighborhood. But I have been trying to get outside most days and the weather here is so much better. Its snowing back home, I barely needed a hoodie today.

So true! I lived in Atlanta, DC then Buffalo NY and all were so different. I love that it does not get as cold here as Buffalo but miss it being a little warmer in summer. It is truly beautiful here and I get so excited seeing all the sheep and Highland cows! So picturesque!

I love autumn here too. Autumn has always been my favorite season especially being from Michigan originally, which has amazing fall colors. But honestly, here in the UK, spring is by far my favorite. It's just the green returning to the hills and fells, the daffodils blooming everywhere and my favorite thing of all - THE LAMBS!!! I loooooove all the baby lambs everywhere. They melt my heart!

Piggies are born at the same time.  Try to go to a "lambing" day somewhere that you can hold both baby lambs and piggies.

I think since LA didn't have any fall activities...I don't miss them.

But I have noticed that the UK isn't as "orange" or full of pumpkins/harvest things/etc. Because a lot of those things aren't just fall related, they're Thanksgiving related.

My husband's ex-in-laws (who he's still friendly with) have a farm and last spring I got to hold some of the little baby lambs!! It was the best thing ever!! I'd love to hold a baby piggie though. Definitely have to look into that next spring. I just get a kick out of all of these animals!
