Sending off Passport. (gulp)

Hello all. I will be going for my second FLR(M). I need to have my name changed on my passport, to my married name.
When do I need to have my passport back? Is it six months? I'm trying to work out time frame, as I want to make sure
my 'new' passport will be with me for my appointment. It is so unnerving having to send my passport back to the states,
in the current climate! As always, appreciate your time and any advise you can give.       Kiera

Since you’re living in the UK, you’d need to send your passport to the embassy in London (or relevant US consulate in Scotland and N. Ireland), not back to the US. As for timing, you’d need to get it done less than 3 months before you’re eligible to apply for FLR(M), otherwise you’ll have to deal with the hassle and expense of changing the name on your BRP. https://www.gov.uk/change-circumstances-visa-brp
