Travel insurance help
« on: November 14, 2018, 10:36:04 AM »
Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a travel insurance company for US medical cover that does not have a six-month or more UK residency exclusion?  I evidently haven’t lived in the UK long enough to qualify for travel insurance....and I no longer have health insurance in the US. I don’t want to take a chance when over there.  Grrrr. Aargh!

Thanks!

I used Insure With when I travelled to the US after only a few months residency. I also needed pre existing condition coverage so you may be able to find a few more options.

I have no idea if it'll work in your case, but World Nomads is often recommended for people in unusual situations.

In May 2016 we moved to England then 5 months later went back to the USA to pack up and move completely. We insured through World Nomads. Our bank, HSBC, had a six month residency requirement. I didn’t look for other options and signed up with World Nomads. Fortunately we did not need to make a claim so can’t comment on their claims process.

Thanks guys.  It feels weird insuring myself to go back to the US.  :o

But if you lived there you would have to insure yourself anyway, and if you weren't working you'd have all the complexities of signing up through the ACA (assuming you are below Medicare age)

True.  I had health insurance from work when I lived there.  I meant “reinsuring” myself.   :)  Husband always bought insurance when he came over but he didn’t have the six month UK residency restriction.

Yeah, I forgot about that 6 month residency thing you are dealing with.
