Trying to visit the UK after having a spouse visa denied
« on: November 17, 2018, 12:31:38 PM »
Hello friends!

About three years ago, I left the UK when my second spouse visa was denied (they said we didn't have the $, but we did, so it was your typical nonsense, really, but I digress) and my husband and I jumped on an opportunity for a job in Asia.

We're back in Europe now. I'm living in one EU country where we've registered and he's going back and forth between here and the UK, and planning to move full-time in a few months.

I'm hoping to take the Eurostar to visit him for Thanksgiving in London. I know they could deny me entry and I'm scared. Is there anything I can do to help that not happen?

I have been assembling documents to show that I have a compelling reason to leave and not try to stay in the UK illegally, and these include:

1. A visa in my passport giving me the right to live in the EU country
2. Local bank account papers
3. An apartment lease
4. A print out from the local government on special hologram paper stating my status here

Is there anything else I could bring? I'm freelancing for a US company right now, so I don't have a local job yet.

Any tips would be much appreciated!  :) :) :)

You've done a great job so far. A return ticket is a big one.

Return ticket as Larabee said.

And a letter from your employer stating your holiday dates would be the next best thing.  I don't think you'll have any problems though.  Hopefully this visit will ease your fears.

Thank you all!

I do have a return ticket, so I will print it out and have it right there in black and white.

I don't have a local employer yet. However, a friend who runs her own accounting business offered to write me a letter saying I work for her. I've been tempted to have her do it, but I wasn't sure if it was a good idea as were I somehow to be caught, it would sure cause problems.

Have her write the letter stating you are using annual leave from xxx date to xxxx date and are due back to work on xxx date.  It's okay that it's not local.  It shows that you know you cannot work while in the UK on a visitors visa and that you have a reason to leave the UK.  :)

But that wouldn't be truthful.

I thought he was freelancing for her.  Did I misunderstand?

Maybe he'll clarify for us but I read it that a friend volunteered to say that he was working for her, even though he wasn't,  just to be able to use the letter at the border?

Sorry for the confusion - yes, a friend whom I am not working offered to say that I am, and provide me with a letter.

So, I think I will skip their kind offer so as not to create problems by being dishonest. :)

Thank you!
