Hello! From LA to Chicago to Finchley, UK!
« on: January 16, 2019, 03:11:40 PM »
Hello everyone!

So happy this exists and happy to start my journey moving to the UK. I met the love of my life at my best friend's wedding and he happens to be the childhood best friend of her now-husband who is from Ealing.

Slightly messy upon starting our relationship, as he was still married and I was in the states, but his divorce is now final and we've been doing long distance for almost a year and a half. We've decided it's time to move in, and as he has a 3 year old daughter, it seems more rational and better for our overall happiness for me to move here. I have a few questions which I will be posting in the VISA forum specifically.

A little more about me: I'm an actress with Commercial/voiceover/TV/film/theater credits, so it seems I can continue my artistic endeavors easily on this side of the Atlantic. I'm originally from Los Angeles but have family now in New York and Guadalajara as well. I have a degree in theater and (of course) have a background in the hospitality industry. My boyfriend is in Finance and works by Liverpool Street Station.

Upon arriving at the beginning of January (without any Visa for now) I had to use the NHS for an illness which was quickly resolved, but it was (strangely) a nice introduction to my future living here.

I guess that's all for now!

Welcome!

Just as an aside - make sure you get a copy of the bill and receipt for payment for your visa application.  Unpaid NHS debt while on a visa that does not allow "free" use of the NHS can result in a refused visa application.

Welcome to the forum, Kristen :).

Feel free to ask any questions you have here on the forum :).

As KFDancer said, if you haven't already, you'll need to make sure you get a bill for your NHS treatment, and a receipt for the payment (if you don't have valid travel/health insurance you will be charged 150% of the cost of the treatment), as you'll be required to declare the treatment and provide the receipt for your visa application.

Welcome!

And just a note because you commented on being able to continue your work here, make sure you do not do any work while on a visitor visa. It's not allowed even if it's income earned in another country. And be sure you investigate the tax side of things if you'll be working for US companies from the UK. They don't make it easy for US expats :(

If they didn't provide me with a receipt while I was there, can I go back to request one?
