Once visa is obtained question about flying
« on: December 05, 2018, 08:55:36 PM »
Hey!

Congrats to all those who have heard from Sheffield!

I have a question about flying over after you get a yes from the UK.

Is there a certain about of time you need to fly within after your visa has been granted? I know there is a fly date on the application but do they expect you to be overseas within a certain time limit from that?

I know there was a quick screen on the application about picking up a NHS card withhin 10 days of the granted visa. What do people have to say on this?

Thanks

The visa should be dated within a week either side of your requested travel date.  You then have 30 days to enter the UK.  You won’t know the start date until you have the visa in hand.  But it should be near about the date requested, unless the application has taken longer to process.

Your visa vignette in your passport will be valid for entry for 30 days, and you must enter within those 30 days. The date your visa starts will be determined by the travel date you put on your application form. They have been making it valid  starting 7 days before the date you put on the application form. But if the date has passed before your visa is issued, it's normally made valid starting a few days after they make the decision.

What you need to pick up is your actual visa... which is in the form of a 33-month BRP card (Biometric Residence Permit). You will need to keep it in a safe place, as it is your proof of right to live and work in the UK, and you must always carry it with you when you travel, as you will not be allowed back into the UK without it!

You need to pick the BRP up from the designated Post Office either:
- within 10 days of arriving in the UK
or
- within the 30 days on your visa entry vignette
... whichever is later.
