The first lesson went very well. He said he thinks I'll be a first time pass! I was a bit nervous of course but I go on with my instructor very well.

However, for my lesson today, I was an emotional wreck as my aunt had just written me a lovely letter and sent me an ornament with my cat's photo. My instructor noticed a shift in my attitude immediately, and when I kept panicking we pulled over and I started crying. I blame this 1. my period 2. Homesickess due to the letter/cat photo.
It might seem silly to get so emotional over a letter and a photo of my cat...but my instructor was SO nice and understanding. It turned into a therapy session and I ended up driving home with no issues. He didn't charge me for the lesson since I really didn't drive much, and we're rescheduling the two hours I still have paid for, for the next couple weeks. I got a good instructor! I downloaded an app to help me study, I am going to apply for my provisional soon then book my theory/practical in due time.

I'm not so bad on the roads though. Just handling a manual again and dealing with roundabouts.

Hope you feel better now.  :) But how lovely your instructor sounds!  :)

You have a good instructor there, kiddo. It's hard to be away from home when you're not used to dealing with that. I think everyone has felt that at one time in their lives or another. Nothing to be ashamed of. Hormones are also evil, and there's not a lot you can do about them. You'll do fine at your next lesson.

The theory test was, on the whole, pretty easy. The Hazards test is easy, with the caveat that they have that weird window of time when you need to click, so if you click too early it doesn't score you any points. Practice it a bit online and you'll do fine.

My last lesson saw me going through a yellow light, which apparently would have failed me on a test. I didn't want to meet the driver of the car that was riding my back bumper, so I went ahead and went through it - it was still yellow when I left the intersection, but apparently that's a no-no. Instructor says to consider a yellow light the same as a red one.  And on the way home in wicked traffic I found myself caught on one of those hatch-mark grid thingys in the road where you are not supposed to stop. It was well ahead of the traffic light, and in front of the bicycle clearance stop area in the lane, and I didn't see it until I was entering it, so, pooh. I'd have failed for that one, too. (Who put that there???? And why????) At least I know it's there now, if my test proctor takes me down Great Western!

I am kind of regretting not practicing on a manual now, as there's a job working with cats at a cat shelter that I would absolutely adore. (I used to volunteer at a shelter, and was eventually on the board of directors for it.) But they want a full driving license as a requirement of the job. So... bummer.

Again, you'll be fine and you'll do well on the tests. :)
