Transferwise- what to pick?
« on: December 16, 2018, 10:41:22 AM »
Ok so trying to kick myself in the butt this week and get some money transferred.

On the site it seems there are two options. Do I pick send money or receive money?

I’m only wanting to transfer a small amount from my US account to my UK bank account. I’m not even sure if this will work as my US bank is a small credit union but I’m going to try.

It's send money but you should probably call them first. They usually want to see your passport and that sort of thing before they let you move money. Anti-money laundering procedures.  :)

On my first transfer they contacted me for the AML documents before they let it go through. You choose send money cuz you're sending it from your account, even if you're sending it to yourself. :)

So strange!! I’ve never been asked for documents and I’ve been using transferwise for at least a year

I too had to provide my documents, I think it was a passport and a bank statement I needed but it's been a couple of years.

I'm another one who didn't have to provide anything.  But I've never transferred more than £2,500.  So maybe the low amounts have worked in my favor?

When I was first trying to move the bulk of my money over almost 3 years ago, I initially tried to do it all in one big transfer, but it asked me for additional verification/documents, and I couldn't be bothered.  So I tried reducing the size of the transfer.  $5000 per transfer worked just fine if I remember right.  So I did that.  A few times.  :)

I don't think they've ever asked me for anything. But I could have forgotten. I've transferred no more than 3500 at a time, so maybe that's it?
