Do you scan your grocery receipts? Could analyse them to see what the most expensive things are ;) But allergy kids are expensive, and I'm sure needing special milk and formula probably didn't help your food costs!

It's just food.  Adds up.  To be fair, I'm sure we have a lot more processed food than we should...  And yeah, the special milks and bread are more expensive but not £2,700 expensive.  I genuinely do not know how we could cut the bill.  We don't eat extravagant meals.  Genuinely.

It's easy to have a couple "big" months for parties and that's averaged to £50 a week over the year, so aside from less processed food there's probably not a lot to cut. You have 2 growing kids and the income to support eating what you want/need to so no reason to worry to much.  :)

My only new years wish is for my stomach to decide to start working again. This is the longest/most severe flare I've had in the 10 years I've had gastroparesis and they just finally referred me to the gastroenterologist. I'm currently paying cuz I tried to be a bit normal over the holidays, just with much smaller portions. Ow.

And to read more books. I got a lot of good recommendations from friends so my kindle is loaded.

And I’m doing a dry January.   ::)

Man.  We've already missed that boat.  hehe

Hmm.  Resolutions... I've always struggled with these.  There are things about myself that need improvement, but I'm fully aware of the extent of my laziness and my hedonism.  I could say I'm going to be more diligent about keeping up with chores or exercising, or something, but I don't like to lie...  And resolving to be happy is silly because I'm already quite happy.  I think the best resolution I can offer is that I (we) will make meaningful progress on our house this year so we can finally, one day, have a proper kitchen again.

You absolutely have all my sympathy as a fellow former gastroparesis sufferer.  Are you on any medication for it yet?  I did terribly with metoclopramide (made me terribly depressed), but had a really good response to domperidone.  It's a shame it's no longer readily available OTC here, but it is still able to be prescribed if needed.

Wishing you all the best for your gastro appointment this year, and hopefully getting things sorted!

Right now, I'm cycling between antiemetics (metclopromide was awful) and they didn't want to try domperidome because of the cardiac risks. With them I'm keeping food down but I can't eat much or it doesn't (1/4 plate, small cup for blended soup/smoothie, no more than every 8 hours but sometimes even longer between). Because this flare came on suddenly & so severe and hasn't let up I'm worried about nerve damage or something else physical behind it. Of course they haven't done any imaging, and it took them 2 months to agree to send me to a specialist because "there's no treatment and you've already got a gastroparesis diagnosis". -sigh- At least now they have my weight on record, they didn't before so they didn't believe me when I said I had lost about a stone. Pants that were snug now slide off without being unbuttoned!

I think that's a good resolution :) Will you be able to get the walls/moisture barrier fixed this year? I know that's the big thing that's been holding back progress, and not having more visa fees to save for will help!

That's our big goal.  If we can get the render done, then we can do all the stuff inside at our leisure/pleasure.  We've had the money set aside for it this whole time.  The problem is finding tradesmen who are both qualified to do the work and available.   More older homes are returning to traditional materials, and since our modern stuff is blown so badly and it all needs redoing anyway, we're going with traditional lime render when we replace it.  But that means we have to find someone qualified who can work us into their schedule.

I'm starting to think that leaving the contact to my husband might be the issue, though.  Thinking about the citizenship thing, and waiting for him to get my professional referee sorted...  ::)

I accomplished last years - to go to the Italian Deli right by my house.  Done!  Been multiple times now.

I always have the same two standard:
1.  To weigh less next New Years
2.  To have more money in the bank

Ticks on both of those this past year and those goals will continue.

As I start my countdown to my 40th (a year and 9 months away), I’m going to get creative.

But this years focus will be on quality time with my husband and kids.  Trying to unplug a bit more (we started having a bottle of Prosecco on Saturday nights an no phones).  Want to keep that going and have one on one time with each kid, plus family time.

My former dance partner died last month after only a 6 month battle with aggresssive cancer.  It’s put a lot into perspective for me.  I felt like she would have been really proud of us splurging the money to go see pandas at Christmas (my daughter is panda obsessed).

And I’m doing a dry January.   ::)

How’s the weight loss going Albatross?
I’m doing dry January as well!

Albatross good luck on your journey, you’re doing great so far!

KFdancer sorry to hear about your friend

Margo I hope you sort out your stomach

Jfkimberly I can’t wait to see your house progress

My resolution is general but also really focused... make myself happy and put myself first.  I’ve gotten so fat here, not even an over exaggeration and it’seffected me mentally and physically. I have a goal to lose forty pounds by my holiday in August, and another thirty or so by the end of the year. I’ve decided not to be walked all over at work/ maybe venture. Out for a new job. Focus on my family even more. Just love me more

Like KFdancer said, we also want to reduce food waste and stop spending so much in food bills. I used to meal plan for the whole week and get away with spending only £120 a month. This was pre kid living with us full time. But we’re so bad, we buy what we want when we want now. So I signed us up for hello fresh to try to give us variety and control over our food budget.  It’s half off right now, but four meals a week came to about thirty quid full priced.
